redscale film with the black slim devil

an ‘interesting’ combination. lomography’s redscale 35mm (iso 100) and superheadz’ wee vivitar clone. some rather shocking pictures came back from the lab. the error’s mostly the photographers fault although some strange, purple, artefacts were present on some of the shots (see below)…not sure if they appeared on the negs as i haven’t bothered scanning them myself yet. UPDATE: got in touch with the lab about it and they said that they’d seen this before with redscale. might be something to do with the film being loaded back in to the canister after it’s been reversed.
the film’s rated at a speed of 100 but can be used between 50 and 200 to produce different colours and effects. i usually use 400 (which the redscale starts of as before they treat it) in the black slim devil due to it’s rather restrictive f/11 and fixed shutter speed. rather a lot of grain…quite a lot of flare…please see below…
regular readers (ha!) will know that i have a bit of a soft spot for cameras of a ‘lo-fi’ nature…wasn’t disappointed with the results from my first foray into redscale…think the next roll might go into the lc-a (and it might not shred it when i attempt to rewind it this time).

building a recesky tlr

bought a recesky tlr camera on ebay. build it yourself twin reflex lens camera that uses standard 35mm film. instructions? well on the box it says ‘instructions to build camera included’ but, alas, there were no sign of said instructions in the package i received. thankfully a kind person has posted this guide which features pictures from the original manual. there’s also this page which has photographs of the process but isn’t terribly helpful…or at least it wasn’t for me when i had no instructions at all.

the box advises that the build will take an hour. took me just under 3 hours but i had to take it apart just when i was finishing the first time as the shutter was getting stuck (keep firing the shutter as you go along to make sure it’s ok…frustrating to have to backtrack).

it’s solid, attractive, and i feel like i know a little bit more about the inner workings of a camera and it’s shutter. see some of the images below…with the completed beast at the end. despite the lack of instructions all the pieces were present with no parts left over at the end of the build.

lomo lubitel 166b

let me introduce the new arrival. a lomo lubitel 166b. classic medium-format twin-lens reflex camera from the ussr. hailing from the early 80s it’s a solid beast with a viewfinder which the operator looks into from above. this isn’t a review…i’m just posting some pictures. if you’d like more info on the camera you can find some here and the manual’s here.
