find your IP and browser info from the linux command line

December 23, 2015

here’s how to find out what your IP (WAN IP) is and display some browser info from the command line. i’m using the links browser

links http://touch.whatsmyip.org/

which displays my IP amongst other info such as ‘Links (2.8; Linux 3.16.0-4-amd64 x86_64; GNU C 4.9.1; text)’. you could of course just run

ifconfig

but the first method might be useful if don’t have root access and you’re making sure you’re connected to a VPN when using a headerless server.
